Well, well...

I got a hamster about a month ago now I guess. I was just bored, and so comes another hamster era. Her name is Fen (Fennel, the spice. They've all had spice names; Ginger, Pepper, Paprika, Nutmeg, and possibly another one! I'm not entirely sure.)

I went to check up on her late last Thursday night. I had seen her in the morning, but hadn't been home all day so thought I'd go say a quick hello. Looking in the cage, I realize, there is no hamster in there, that door is not latched shut....Shite! So I proceed to look for her. I look in each room in the basement and close the door behind me. She is not in any of the rooms. I look in the big room, under the couches, under the T.V., in the corners behind shelves. Not there. I go under the stairs (a minor disaster in my house) it is hopeless. I cannot possibly look through all of this stuff. So, I sit really still, hoping if she is here I will hear her. Nothing. It is about midnight by this point and I have an early rising time of 6:15. I figured I'd look for her when I got back from school.

In the morning I am brushing my teeth, when I suddenly remember my childhood nightmare every time I lost one of my hamsters...What if shes in the sump pump?!? No. she couldn't possibly be in there! So, I finish brushing my teeth, and go to check. I look down the hole, "Well, I can't see anything, maybe I should take off the lid." I take of the lid to find a little wet hamster sitting in about 1cm of water on a little circular piece of metal just under the surface of the water. "Oh, my!" I felt so bad. As the frick if she fell in the sump pump, its almost humorous! ha ha, other than I feel bad. How long has she been there I wonder...I rinse and dry her, and put her safe and sound in her cage...All is well.

About 20 minutes ago my mom came downstairs, "Have you checked on your hamster lately?" Turns out she escaped again. Except this time I am positive I closed the cage properly. Though she didn't fall into any sewers or anything this time, she did make it all the way upstairs (maybe I shouldn't have taught her to climb stairs...) through the house to my parents room. just about the farthest place in the house from her cage...wow, that is talent. Especially after opening her own cage door...I'm going to have to keep an eye on this one!

Ha ha, I like how you name them.

I bet Grandma was just trilled with a loose hamster in the house.
